This is my favorite album by John Coltrane. As I learn to play it on my saxophone, I learn so much about music in general. I have gotten the sheet music of the various takes of the song Giant Steps too, in order to study how he approached all his solos for this wonderful tune. It is delightful to play the music of this classic album with the CD.

My 16 y/o son is playing Coltrane on his clarinet, totally cool. It's definitely for intermediate to advanced players/readers.

This one is a real workout and at Jazz camps we attend a lot of the top players work this one. If you can play this you get one hell of an attaboy(girl) ... buy this and you are in for a lot of practice time, but if you master this you will be afraid of NOTHING!!!!!!!!!! PERIOD!

I'm all for transcriptions of Coltrane and wish more of his albums got the treatment. I gave the book four stars, but that's only because the Coltrane Omnibook is a much better bargain. It sells for about the same price and has all the transcriptions in this book except Naima, plus there are over 50 others. If you play a transposing instrument, you can also get it in Bb or Eb.I should also point out, the omnibook does have a transcription of Naima, it just isn't the take that appears on the original album. If you have the Giant Steps CD with all the bonus tracks, the version of Naima in the Omnibook is Alternate Version 1.I bought the book for the Naima transcription.
